Galleria Doria-Pamphilj: A Journey Through the Centuries
Discover with passion and enthusiasm the Galleria Doria-Pamphilj, a private museum belonging to the prestigious Doria Pamphilj Landi family. Immerse yourself in a captivating artistic universe, housing an extraordinary private art collection.
The Historic 16th Century Palace
Immerse yourself in the magical atmosphere of the palace, located between Via del Corso and Via della Gatta, dating back to the 16th century. Originally, it belonged to Cardinal Fazio Santoro, then it was passed on to the Della Rovere family. In the early 17th century, it came into the hands of Cardinal Pietro Aldobrandini before being incorporated into Olimpia Aldobrandini's dowry.
A Gift of Love in 1647
Transport yourself back in time to 1647 when Olimpia Aldobrandini, the widow of Paolo Borghese, married Prince Camillo Pamphilj, nephew of Pope Innocent X. She presented him with the current palace, which remains a precious Pamphilj heritage in the 21st century. To embellish the palace, a new wing was added, known as the "New Apartment," located opposite the Roman College, at the very site of the current palace. The plans were entrusted to architect Antonio del Grande. Later, in the 18th century, the palace was passionately renovated by Gabriele Valvassori.
A Treasure Accessible to the Public
Since its inception, the palace was designed to allow the exhibition of art collections to the public. The current arrangement of the paintings is the result of an 18th-century hanging plan found in the family archives and carefully restored in the 1990s. Thus, you will have the privilege of contemplating the artworks in their original arrangement, as they were conceived several centuries ago.
