The Theatre of Pompey and the Assassination of Julius Caesar
Largo di Torre Argentina is also famous for housing the remains of the Theatre of Pompey, built in 55 BC. This theatre was the largest in Rome at that time and could accommodate up to 20,000 spectators. Unfortunately, it was also in this theatre that Julius Caesar was assassinated on March 15, 44 BC, marking a turning point in Roman history.
