I'm going to tell you the fascinating story of Leonardo da Vinci, the polymath genius of the 15th century. Get ready to be amazed by his artistic talents, scientific discoveries, and visionary mind.
Youth and Apprenticeship
Leonardo da Vinci was born on April 14, 1452, in Vinci, Tuscany. As the son of a peasant woman and a notary, he grew up with his paternal grandparents. At the age of ten, he was sent to Florence, where he received an exceptional artistic education. He studied alongside great artists such as Botticelli and Perugino.
Versatile and Curious
Since his departure from the workshop in 1482, Leonardo revealed himself to be a curious and versatile mind. He became an engineer in the service of the Duke of Milan and created commissioned paintings for the court. He also studied mathematics and human anatomy. His talent attracted many students, including Salai, who became his protégé.
Travels and Achievements
Leonardo traveled throughout Italy, working in Mantua, Venice, and Florence. He devoted himself to painting, architecture, and military engineering. In 1503, Florence entrusted him with a fresco, but he was summoned to Milan by the King of France. During his stay in Milan from 1506 to 1511, he served as the painter and engineer to the sovereign. It was during this time that he met his loyal student and friend, Francesco Melzi.
Invitation to France and End of Life
In 1514, Leonardo worked in Rome for Giuliano de' Medici. However, he gradually abandoned painting to focus on sciences and marsh reclamation projects. In 1516, he was invited to France by Francis I, who welcomed him at the manor of Clos Lucé. Leonardo brought along with him Mona Lisa, one of his most famous works. He died suddenly in 1519 at Clos Lucé, leaving behind an invaluable artistic and scientific legacy.
Leonardo da Vinci was more than just an artist. He was a true genius of his time, mastering various disciplines and pushing the boundaries of knowledge. His passionate and enthusiastic spirit led him to explore fields as diverse as painting, architecture, engineering, science, and many more. His legacy continues to fascinate and inspire future generations.
