The Video Game Museum of Rome (VIGAMUS) is an interactive museum dedicated to the history of video games. Its official announcement took place during the Italian Video Game Developers Conference (IVDC) in 2010, and it opened its doors to the public in October 2012.
Foundation and Objectives
VIGAMUS is a founder member of EFGAMP, the European Federation of Game Archives, Museums, and Preservation Projects. This federation is dedicated to digital preservation, with a special focus on video games.
Exhibition and Diversity
The museum is hosted in an extensive exhibition center and is divided into sections covering various periods of video game history. The collection features over 440 objects related to video games, accompanied by more than 100 information panels providing details about the context and history of these elements. Fifteen retrospectives offer visitors an immersion into the creation of some iconic games.
Interactive Areas
In addition to classic exhibitions, VIGAMUS has interactive areas dedicated to arcade games, console games, and even an Oculus VR room.
